as soon as the ‘kinder’ weather hits, i start wearing dresses. as often as utterly possible. because dresses are comfortable…. easy to wear… and obviously because they’re super cute. it’s the easiest way for me to express myself without putting a ton of thought into my look – because let’s be real – life gets crazy, and sometimes your wardrobe gets thrown onto the back burner. in this entry, i’m discussing ways that basic casual day-dresses can elevate your look with little thought! if you follow my blog actively, you know that i LOVE playing with texture as a way to spice things up. when i first started blogging, i tried to wear bright, bold colors all the time and find the most funky walls to photograph in front of – and don’t get me wrong, i still tend to do that, but it’s simply not sustainable for everyday life, and my blog started feeling less authentic than i’d want it to. the more fashionistas i met, the more i realized that color – while important to me – is not necessarily all that makes an outfit stand out. today i’m featuring a really fun smock dress from target that i think checks all the boxes for unique, stand-out spring fashion. read on to hear my thoughts! Real talk: If you’ve been watching my Insta Stories lately, I’ve mentioned (more than once) that since moving to the ‘burbs I’ve put on some serious pounds. (Somewhere between 10 and 12…. but who’s counting, right? Oh yeah…. I AM….) I’m clearly a stress eater, and when the going gets tough, I get the munchies. Packing, moving, acclimating, commuting…. getting used to a new schedule and way of life… using my new kitchen for Taco Night… these are all factors that led me to this uncomfortable state, and as of May 1st I’ve been on an epic cleanse to get back to where I felt ‘bomb dot com’. That being said, I recently stumbled upon a cross-back dress with an empire waist that I bought in two colors because it was just THAT flattering (even on my current frame). I realized I never talk about empire waist… probably because I don’t wear it all that often… but it’s a silhouette we ALL should have stashed in our wardrobe for the inevitable day when we feel like we’ve gotta let it all out and cover it all up at the same time. We’re all sitting around the Tri-State area waiting patiently for Spring to arrive and stay for good…. but in “blog-world” we’re already sporting our Spring styles to give you all the inspo you need for when the weather finally does warm up. Last week’s AR Workshop collaboration was the perfect opportunity to wear an outfit that featured new Spring pieces.
