brocade brigade: party of one

i love delving into fabrics and what they’re most suited for. today i’m talking about brocade – “a rich fabric, usually silk, woven with a raised pattern, typically with gold or silver thread.” this texture is most often found in your grandma’s sitting room…. but since the fall of 2017, it’s been hitting the runways (and the streets of nyc) like crazy. read on for inspo on how to wear this fun print in real life.

brocade looks beautiful woven into booties, accented into handbags, or even in headbands – but my all time favorite way to feature this look is in a party dress. i recently attended my cousin’s wedding, and this beautiful off-the-shoulder number stood out from the crowd without drawing attention away from the bride! i feel like wedding guests either: A. look like one of the bridesmaids, or B. wear the same LBD they have in their closet, ready and raring to go…. so i wanted to explore something different, something with personality, and something that was elegant.

paired with statement earrings and classic black pumps, i felt flirty and had a blast in this outfit! and guess what? this dress is ON SALE NOW!!!! which makes me really jealous because i paid top dollar…. so run to bloomie’s and find this bad boy to add to your wardrobe!

i’ve linked you guys to a few similar options (all found at bloomingdale’s), including one with sleeves, and one with a pop of color. keep your eye out for this pattern…. it’s making a serious comeback and i can’t wait for the opportunity to wear this piece again! have you been following along on instagram? help me get my engagement rates up by leaving me ‘likes’ when you see my photos in your feed! thanks, as always, for reading & supporting!
