new hair, who dis?

fall is finally in the air, and it was time for a change so i headed to saint rose – a tiny boutique salon in williamsburg, brooklyn – to add some warm autumn tones to my dark locks!

you know it’s going to be a good experience when your own personal cut/style/blowout & extension guru (gina ribando) sends you there. since color is not her forté, gina directed me to her personal colorist, chelsey drapeau. when i arrived, i was pleasantly surprised by the super cute decor! this salon boasts white exposed brick, a neon sign, vintage-style arm chairs and succulent accents throughout.  r+co products grace every station, and with their eclectic packaging, this salon’s products add to the overall aesthetic of the space. right up my alley, to say the least. and i can’t forget to mention – the entire outside wall is literally hot pink. there is an incredible mural painted on their metal garage-door gate, which you’d only enjoy walking past the salon before it opens – but it’s super cool (and a great spot for my fellow brooklyn bloggers to take early morning photos – hint hint!)

in terms of color, i’ve done it all — blonde ombre, fire engine red tips, pastel violet balayage, and of course my go-to soft black hue. for this fall season, i was looking to add a little color without going too edgy. i wanted to stay away from the honey/caramel tones and do a balayage that was a bit more unique. we settled on a dark violet/eggplant tone. in order to achieve this look in one shot, chelsey decided to use the technique “foilyage” which is a combination of traditional foils and painted balayage. the reason for doing this is heat insulation! the foils help to lift color quicker. chelsey got select strands from nearly-black to dark blonde super fast, while using a hand-painted technique to achieve the look i was going for. at the end, she applied two rounds of our purple shade to damp hair… rinsed, and voila!

the finished product, along with photos of the space’s sweet details, are all featured below. saint rose is an awesome place to get your hair done while hanging out with some super cool gals. with only three stations and one sink, this cute little haven guarantees you undivided attention, pampering, and a great set of walls for your “after” sellfie! follow along on my instagram journey, and be sure to visit saint rose the next time you’re brooklyn-bound!
