i just returned from a whirlwind weekend in chicago. i had only been once before (pre-blog), so when my husband was called on a friday business meeting at the last minute, i jumped on the opportunity to accompany him on his trip and make a weekend getaway out of it. naturally, i brought some of my fall favorites in my suitcase, and this outfit is one of them!
back in the days where i’d have the energy go out on the town every weekend, i started to notice that mini dresses were being replaced for midi-dresses. at a petite 5 ft. tall, a skin tight midi body con dress was literally the worst choice to show off my assets. it cut my legs off at the wrong, point emphasized my least-favorite parts, and i would never feel totally 100% comfortable when that trend was at it’s peak.
fast forward a few years to 2017, and a new kind of midi is gracing the runways, the streets, and the pages of our magazines: this midi, in both skirt and dress form, is a high-waisted, looser cut… and even at 5 ft. tall, it’s flattering, elongating, and super comfortable to wear. this one in particular is a ‘track’ style midi, by target’s who what wear collection. i paired it with heeled booties by marc fisher and a floral top from zara (though i’ve linked you to some similar options below). i am totally obsessed with this outfit, because i love pairing stripes and prints whenever possible – and the track stripe down the side of this silky skirt was just the right amount of ‘stripage’ to compliment a floral top.
for photos, i stopped by the iconic ‘chicago bean’. it was a blast doing my thing amongst all the tourists. the blog life certainly requires little to no shame. i had fun taking a sporty style and turning it into a sophisticated and sleek out-to-dinner look. are you a fan of this new and improved midi cut? i know i am! follow me on instagram for more of my chicago style.
