bold blooms in georgetown, d.c.

it’s rare that i feel compelled to shoot the same look in two locations, but on this particular day in georgetown, i had no idea what i was in for. i began my shoot at the ‘wave wall’ (a location i had scouted before even stepping foot in d.c.) – but as soon as i packed up my things and headed towards my brunch reservation, i passed the cutest, brightly-painted shop. i took one look at my husband (who was my assistant for the day) and he knew we were stopping to snag a few more photos of this perfectly-matched look.

for daytime in d.c. i wanted to look put together while still feeling super comfortable, so i stopped in forever21 literally the day before i left to grab a few “wear-anywhere” pieces that would liven up the ensembles i had planned. this button-front midi skirt was one of them, and really came in clutch so that i didn’t look like a mega-tourist in shorts & sneakers. it’s flowy with an elastic waist, lightweight (because d.c. is literally so hot and muggy) and looked beautiful paired with a high-neck blouse from francesca’s. i opted for satin slides (also from forever21) — but i have to be honest — they were not a match made in heaven for my feet. i wound up stopping in dsw for a quick replacement shoe, and i’m so sad they didn’t make it into the photos because they are the prettiest pop of coral and really tied together the entire look. ya win some, ya lose some.

i absolutely loved roaming the streets of georgetown. the homes and shops are painted to perfection — each street was nicer than the next. it was a shame i could only really shoot there once, but i have all the incentive i need to plan another trip to d.c. — if only for the photo ops! follow me on instagram and tell your friends, too!

shop the look:

  1. How rare is it that the buildings are brighter than your outfits?? Probably not very often for you;) Nonetheless, adorable pink and green building and even cuter outfit! That top is darling and I looooove those skirts but they are always too long on me and end up making me look frumpy – instead of the cuteness that you can pull off wearing them!
