indigo heights x embassy row hotel: my summer ’17 d.c. diary

i had the most amazing time in washington, d.c. i know it sounds crazy, but at thirty years old, this was my first time exploring our nation’s capital. i partnered with the embassy row hotel in the city’s bustling dupont circle neighborhood to create a thrilling (and super patriotic) fourth of july weekend that i’ll never forget!

the embassy row hotel boasts modern and luxurious boutique accommodations. guests enter a chandelier’ed lobby decked in mod furniture and bold colors. metallic wallpaper greets you, and each cushion, pillow & chair is a tip of the hat to exotic, globally-inspired decor (which would make sense being that the building itself is surrounded by the many embassies of the world.) the property houses an indoor cocktail bar, as well as a rooftop bar — and the drinks were surely flowing all weekend long! so much so that i made great use of the fitness facilities, which are flanked by a game room that both adults and children seem to love! the rooftop pool was (literally) always bustling – from water fueled spin classes to poppin’ day parties, there was something happening every time i checked it out. piƱa coladas are served in straight up coconuts (which you know i appreciate on more levels than one) and every single staff member was happy and hospitable.

when my hubby and i arrived at our room, i was met with the sweetest note and some snacks from the marketing team – which came in handy after a long night out on the town! i love all the pops of yellow throughout the lobby and the rooms themselves. once again, the colors, textures and patterns throughout the space had a worldly feel that was right up my alley. the rooms are small but mighty – really living up to their boutiquey feel – and the nest fragrances toiletries are a seriously high-quality touch.

outside the hotel is a small, brightly-colored angel wing mural which attracted plenty of attention from both guests and passersby. our first full day in d.c. was spent in georgetown, where i dropped way too much money in and out of all the shops! we ate brunch at chez billy sud (full review to follow). that night we trekked to the lincoln memorial so that we could see it’s splendor all lit up at night. it was beautiful, and i took for granted how ’empty’ it was at 11pm when i arrived there in broad daylight the following afternoon.

but before i get to that, my next morning was spent bonding with two of my d.c.-based style collective sisters, karen edwin and kat pierre! (check out the post i wrote about our mini-meet-up by clicking here.) it was amazing to get to meet two likeminded #bossbabes in person, and the embassy row hotel were the best hosts ever. we had free-flowing cocktails out on the front veranda, which is decked in moroccan-style pillows and floor tiles. (hellooooo insta-worthy!!!!)

after our brunch-tails, i headed to (actual) brunch and then on to be “tourist for a day”. we saw the capitol building, the white house, the washington monument, and the lincoln memorial. it was tons of walking (and high temps) – but we made it through!

the next morning was checkout day, however, i made sure to spend a few hours lounging poolside before packing up the car to head back to nyc. it was the perfect amount of time to walk (and eat) our way through washington, d.c. and i can’t wait to come back! many thank you’s to the embassy row hotel for the impeccable hospitality and truly blogworthy experience.
