life’s a beach when you learn to pack light

i’m very lucky that my family belongs to a country club in new jersey. it’s a community gathering spot with golf, tennis, food, and of course – a pool… and being able to utilize these things (especially in the summer months) is a huge perk for my husband and i when we’re itching to bust out of the city for the weekend. this day was particularly fun, because our friends came with us as guests and we spent the day swimming, eating, and of course sipping on many a margarita – but getting there is epic, and i used this day as an experiment to see just how light i could pack for a (really wet) day trip.

the trek from brooklyn involves the subway, to the njtransit train, to our friends’ car… so the goal of this outfit was to pack as lightly as possible, while still looking put together. i was able to wear my onepiece bathing suit beneath my flowy handkerchief dress by aqua (similar styles linked below). i looked presentable for lunch, and didn’t have to do any changing in order to jump right into the pool afterwards. when it was time to pack up and head home, i changed out of my suit – into some undies – and put that dress right back on over the top. it made for a much more desirable and hassle-free day trip. in a perfect world, i would have packed my suit plus cover up, etc…. but finding a gorgeous statement dress that could double as a cover up (provided i didn’t get it wet) was the clutch move that has me wanting to head out to the club every weekend. next step to ultimate summertime freedom: figuring out how to let my natural hair rock, cutting (literal) hours out of my routine. (i’m totally serious. coming to the blog soon!) keep it easy and keep it simple this summer, gals… you’ll be happy you did!
