i’ve been to miami too many times to count. it’s a home away from home – the quickest most direct path to tropical weather from new york city. i find myself in south beach two, sometimes even three times per year….. but never before have i taken the time to check out the wynwood arts district. until now! wynwood has taken over what used to be the warehouse and manufacturing district of miami, located in midtown (about a 20 minute uber trip from the south beach strip). now, warehouses have turned to cafes, restaurants, boutiques and bars…. set in a community where every single solitary building is splattered with color. different murals line the streets – some are like painted wallpaper – others tell a full story in one picture. the wynwood arts district houses some of the most creative artists in the country. if you’re lucky, your work will wind up in the wynwood walls, one of the largest open-air street installations in the word. walking through this exhibit – and the neighborhood in general – was so aesthetically stimulating for me (lover of all things bright and colorful). i came prepared, complete with my tripod and outfit changes, to photograph some fun spring/summer looks against the most epic backdrops. look number one required the most mermaid-y wall i could find. this abstract sunscape tucked away in a parking lot was calling my name.

this ‘mermaid on duty’ graphic tee couresty of forever21 went perfectly with my newest pair of high-rise shorts from target. jcrew is an excellent go-to for statement earrings, and though these are last season’s there are so many amazing, similar options to choose from here.

as you can tell, i turned the silliness up a notch during this shoot. what a fun, relaxed and affordable look. i added a bold lip which gave this outfit the color it deserved (because unfortunately that epic wall doesn’t just follow me everywhere i go). when you’re by the ocean and feeling all the mermaid feels, this is the type of casual outfit that’s perfect for a day of brunching and window shopping. dress it up with a blazer and heels and you’ve transitioned to night-time appropriate in less than a minute! would you rock this look? follow me on instagram for more inspiration!
